Last week, the Omaha group Friends of Nebraska Children came together to celebrate another year of supporting and championing Nebraska Children and Families Foundation. The group works hard throughout the year to organize service opportunities, host events, and pitch in however they can to help Nebraska Children be successful.
This year was an active one for the Friends group. In the spring, the service committee led efforts to distribute information on ways to advocate for a number of bills in the state legislature affecting Nebraska Children’s work. This summer, the Friends partnered with Project Everlast to collect items for holiday care packages with their Christmas in July drive. A lot of work goes into the drive, with planning a special event, reaching out to companies to organize drop-off sites, and gathering items. Plus, more than 25 volunteers will be coming together with Project Everlast this winter to assemble the care packages. In addition to all their other hard work, the Friends pitched in to help make the annual Changemakers event go smoothly.
The highlight of the year was their fundraiser Perfect Pour – a craft cocktail competition benefiting Nebraska Children. More than 350 attendees gathered to experience a 1950s Cuba-themed evening celebrating fun, friendship, philanthropy – and a showdown between Omaha and Lincoln’s brightest and most innovative bartenders! Local mixologists prepared their best craft cocktails using Brugal rum. There was live music, Cuban food, a themed raffle, and an authentic period photography silent auction.
All in all, the Friends group had a huge impact on Nebraska Children’s work this year. They gave selflessly of their time and talents, and it all culminated in presenting the foundation with a check for $38,240! Thank you so much to all of the Friends members.
